Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm | Review

Recently my skin has started to misbehave again which has left me no choice but to up my skincare game and after a good few months of trying the Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm, I thought I would share with you my thoughts.

I’ve never been into cleansing balms. As you may know, I’m a big fan of the whole ‘take your makeup off with a wipe’ or maybe the odd cotton pads and micellar water. I also have really sensitive eyes, so I’m not a fan of rubbing cleanser all over them in the process.

Here’s what Clinique claim about their Cleansing Balm:

Lightweight cleansing balm quickly dissolves stubborn eye and face makeups, including those with sunscreen. Transforms from a solid balm to a silky, fluid oil upon application. Cleans thoroughly, rinses off completely. Non-greasy. Non-drying. For all skin types.

This plastic Purple tub contains 100ml of a White wax-like balm for £22.00. It features a plastic Silver lid and as you can see, the writing on the packaging isn’t very sustainable.

Clinique’s Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm is not new. It is new to me, however. It’s very much a cult skincare product of the beauty blogosphere and I can see why.

The Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm is a gentle cleanser but extremely effective. It’s the first cleanser I’ve used that removed every trace of makeup from my face! Yes, including eye makeup. Shockingly the first cleanser that doesn’t irritate my significantly sensitive eyes too!

Note: When using this product it does tend to get in my eyes (from trying to remove eye makeup) and leaves a film over my eyes for about ten minutes, but still never irritates them.

Another thing I love about this cleansing balm is the therapeutic feeling I get when using it. When using this balm, cleansing my face never feels like a chore. I give myself a mini facial massage and I instantly feel like I’m in a spa. It’s so relaxing.

I use this cleansing balm whenever I have a full face of makeup on, or if my skin needs a little pampering. It leaves my skin feeling normal again. I feel like it restores my skin balance as my skin can either be too dry or too oily. When I’ve finished using it my skin feels amazingly soft and supple.

The best way to use this cleansing balm is by scooping out a dollop with your fingers and applying it to your face dry. When applying it to your face it will sort of feel like you’re rubbing lard on your face (haha), it gets better I promise! I like to give myself a facial massage at this point, to ease myself while making sure to rid every trace of makeup. I then like to wet my face with warm water (or cold) and remove all of that dirt and grime from my face leaving it squeaky clean.

I think this cleansing balm is brilliant and very much lives up to its claims. The best thing about it is that it’s suitable for all skin types! I had the courtesy of this being gifted to me by my best friend (thanks Ash!), but I would most likely purchase it again. The only downside is the price but you get a lot for what you pay for so it is worth the splurge. It has become a staple in my skincare regime and has definitely opened up my eyes to Clinique. I would recommend this to anyone who can get their hands on it, it’s one of the best cleansers I have used and not many come close!

What are your favourite cleansers? I’d love to know!

Take care my lovelies,
