NYX Cosmetics Slim Lip Pencil Review

If you follow Non-Fiction Beauty on Instagram you will have seen these beauties scattered all over my page. I first shared this about three weeks ago as soon as they reached my hands. I couldn’t wait (my laptop being at the computer hospital didn’t help the situation much either)! You ladies were going crazy over them and to be honest, I don’t blame you.

I stumbled across these whilst browsing my new found love, Amazon. During my NYX hunting spree, I found these NYX Cosmetics Slim Lip Pencils for £9.36 (price at the time). As I didn’t have many lip liners anyway, I figured I gravitate towards bright coloured lips more than anything, hence saving them to my wishlist for a later date. I was in shock horror when I tried adding them to my cart and saw they were unavailable. Me being a stubborn lip liner-craving monster, I desperately searched for more lip liner packs and came to find a selection of pretty nudes for the same price. You all know what I did next…

My order didn’t take as long as I anticipated to arrive, so when the postman delivered these to my door I screamed with joy. The more I looked at the pictures the more I fell in love, and I am so glad I opted for these neutral colours instead of the brights.

As I mentioned before, the price for this pack of NYX Cosmetics Slim Lip Pencils is amazing. I am sure they originally retail for the price of £3.50 each, so it’s a no-brainer that you’ll be saving money buying six of them for less than £10.00.

I’ve always been a fan of lip colours when it comes to makeup, but I have never really understood the importance of lip liners up until a year or two ago. If you want your lipstick to last, a base is essential. Not only do lip liners intensify the colour, they can also make your lips look fuller, define your lip shape more and prevent the lip colour from bleeding.

(‘Bleeding’ in the makeup world means when your lipstick runs into the fine lines and creases around your lips.)

That is not to say lip liner cannot be worn alone, however. Lip liners can look gorgeous when worn solo so it is not completely neccessary for you to smother another lip product over the top. Whatever floats your boat really!

The colours you get in this lip pencil pack are:

  • Coffee (Deep Mauve)
  • Ever (Warm Mauve-Brown)
  • Mahogany (Plum-Brown)
  • Nude Beige (Beige)
  • Pale Pink (Light Mauve-Pink)
  • Soft Brown (Light Tan-Brown)

I guess you want to see some swatches huh? :smirk:

If you are a Nude lovin’ girl then these lip liners will be right up your street, as I find they range from Neutral to Dark. Since last year I have slowly converted to a nude lover when it comes to lip colours, this only fueled my obsession further! I personally love Mahogany. Lately I have been loving Mahogany with MAC’s Mehr Lipstick, as I keep raving about on Instagram!

NYX claims that these lip liners contain coconut oil to hydrate and condition the lips. The only con about these lip liners is that they accentuate dry patches on the lips and make them quite flaky. While I find the texture to be velvety, they can tug if you do not prep your lips beforehand. I usually lather a bit of lip balm on my smackers and lightly wipe it off after a minute or so. Besides that, these lip liners are very easy to blend but do not bleed. They do stay put for a good few hours and I am obsessed with them at the moment!

Now we all know NYX lip products are highly compared to MAC. I know I have seen many impressive dupes for their lip creams/butter glosses, but not so much lip liners. You know your homegirl had to include some dupes!

  • NYX Coffee – MAC Spice
  • NYX Nude Beige – MAC Stripdown/Subculture
  • NYX Ever – MAC Chicory
  • NYX Pale Pink – MAC Snob
  • NYX Mahogany – MAC Cork
  • NYX Soft Brown – MAC Boldly Bare (closest one I could find. Boldly Bare is more warm-toned than Soft Brown but they are quite similar!)

I do know that the company who stocks these on Amazon had thirteen of these packs in stock when I last saw them available, and they are already out of stock since I posted about them on Instagram! It is unfortunate if you haven’t already snapped them up, however, I strongly urge you to add them to your wishlist and keep a close eye. They will be in stock again soon! This is an amazing bargain and considering the close dupes for MAC lip colours, they cannot go amiss.

I hope you liked this post and found it very useful ladies! What are your favourite lip liners from NYX? Do you have any other MAC dupes to share with us? Let us know!

Take care my lovelies,
